My name is Ignatius (Iggy), an experienced international tutor with over nine years of success supporting students in the UK and globally. I provide tuition aligned with the Scottish Curriculum for Excellence, including SQA National 5, Higher, Advanced Higher, and A Level syllabuses.
I specialise in Mathematics, Science, and Engineering-related subjects, supporting students from primary level through to secondary school and beyond. I currently tutor students online worldwide and also work one-to-one with families in Edinburgh, providing in-home Maths tuition tailored to each child’s needs.
My academic background is rooted in engineering and systems thinking, which strongly shapes how I teach. I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Automation and Electronics Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China, one of Asia’s leading universities, before going on to earn a Master’s degree in Automation and Control Systems Engineering from Edinburgh Napier University in the UK. Studying and living in both China and the UK has given me a deep understanding of different education systems, learning styles, and parental expectations.
Over the years, I have worked with students of varying abilities — from those who need confidence-building and foundational support, to high-performing students aiming for top grades. I am particularly skilled at breaking down complex concepts into simple, clear explanations, helping students not only understand the material but also enjoy learning it.
What truly sets me apart is my approach. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all teaching. Every student learns differently, so I adapt my methods to suit each learner’s pace, personality, and goals. I place a strong emphasis on confidence, problem-solving skills, and independent thinking, not just exam results. In addition to tutoring, I am the founder of Smart Wave Consulting Ltd, an education and EdTech company focused on delivering high-quality, technology-enabled learning experiences.
